Travel quarantine rules in Norway updated by the Ministry of Health [8-14 November 2021]
Published on: 09 November 2021

The Ministry of Health and Care Services of Norway has recently modified the list of areas whose citizens will be required to quarantine after arriving in Norway.

The new regulations are based on the weekly assessment by the Norwegian Institute of Public Health regarding COVID-19 statistics of both EU countries and third countries.

This way, the Norwegian government has decided that from Monday 8 November at 12 am, people from the region of North Savo, Finland, will not have to isolate themselves after arriving in Norway. This is because North Savo, which was classified as a red area last week, is an orange area now.

At the same time, people coming from the Finnish region of Kymmenlaakso will be required to quarantine under the new regulation, as the region has recently changed its status from orange to red.

Other compromised areas whose citizens will be required to quarantine are the regions of North Jutland and Southern Denmark (Denmark), Northern Aegean Islands and Southern Aegean Islands (Greece), and Kalmar, Skåne, Södermanland, Uppsala, Västra Götaland, and Östergötland, in Sweden.

Travel quarantine is mandatory for every person over 18 years old coming to Norway from dark red, red, purple, and grey areas especially if they cannot present a COVID-19 certificate detailing:

  • If they’ve recently tested negative for COVID-19.
  • If they’ve been infected and successfully recovered from COVID-19 (which provides a certain immunization against the virus).
  • If they’ve received the two doses of an authorized vaccine against COVID-19, with the last dose administered in the last 14 days.

Although travel quarantine lasts 10 days in Norway, it can be interrupted if the traveler takes a PCR test and receives a negative result from the third day onwards.

In short, these are the countries whose nationals must quarantine once they step on Norwegian territory;
