The Government of the Netherlands has decided to remove the EU entry ban in the country as of 17 September 2022.
From that date on, people from all countries outside the Schengen Area and the European Union will be able to travel to the Netherlands without being required to present proof of vaccination or proof of recovery from COVID-19.
These requirements had been lifted for travelers from the Schengen Area and the European Union on 23 March 2022, along with the requirement of wearing face masks in public transport and other measures. But nationals of countries outside the Schengen Area and the European Union were still subject to COVID-19 travel restrictions until now.
The remaining COVID-19 travel restrictions included having completed the COVID-19 vaccination schedule with vaccines approved by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) or the World Health Organization (WHO).
“Given the current epidemiological situation in the Netherlands, the Government feels that for entry to the Netherlands the EU entry ban is no longer proportional”, explained the authorities in a statement published on the Dutch government’s website.
This way, the Government of the Netherlands eliminates all the COVID-19 travel and entry restrictions that remained active in the country.
According to the Government’s statement, the European Commission is also planning to publish a proposal for revising the rules for entering the European Union in autumn 2022.
