France Schengen visa for citizens of Yemen in 2023

Yemeni citizens who are hoping to visit France will need a visa in order to enter the country. A Schengen visa is the best option for Yemeni citizens who are looking to spend under 90 days in France and who would also like to visit other countries in the Schengen area (in addition to France, Yemenis who obtain a Schengen visa will enjoy entry to the 25 other countries in the zone, such as Germany and Italy). Today’s blog will provide an overview of the France Schengen visa for citizens of Yemen in 2023, including all the France visa information you will need to know in order to apply for your visa.  

How to apply for the France Schengen visa for citizens of Yemen in 2023

• 1. Choose when to apply 
  • Apply for your visa to France so that you receive it in time to travel (a minimum of 15 days prior to when you leave for France), but not so early that it won’t be accepted by the visa authorities (applications lodged more than six months prior to a planned trip to the Schengen area will be rejected).   
• 2. Choose your France visa type 
  • Schengen visas are available in multiple types (see the complete list of Schengen visa types here).
  • The type of visa you pursue should highlight your main reason for traveling to France. For example, if you are traveling to France in order to receive medical care, you will apply for a medical type visa (many Yemenis apply for Medical, Schengen visas, but Student and Business Schengen visa types are also commonly sought-after.  
• 3. Choose your France visa category 
  • Whether or not you can re-enter France if you exit it (and the number of times you can return to the zone while on your Schengen visa) is determined by your visa’s entry category.  
  • Applicants must choose from among three different entry categories: single, double, and multiple. 
  • A single-entry Schengen visa will allow you to enter France once, however, if you decide to leave the Schengen area while you still have time left on your visa, keep in mind that you will not be allowed to re-enter the zone for whatever reason. 
  • A double-entry Schengen visa will allow you to enter France/the Schengen area twice. This means that you can re-enter the Schengen area if you leave it and you still have time left on your visa, but if you leave the zone a second time you will be denied a third entry. 
  • A multiple entry Schengen visa will allow you to travel back and forth between the Schengen area and your country of residence as many times as you like throughout your visa validity period. Because of this, a multiple-entry Schengen visa is the most flexible and coveted category. 
• 4. Choose France as your primary destination
  • If France is the country where you intend to spend the most time while on your trip to the Schengen area, you will select France as your primary destination in the zone. 
  • Keep in mind that your primary destination is not necessarily the Schengen country that you enter first—for example, if you enter the Schengen area through Austria, but you then go on to spend the majority of your time there in France, you will still select France (rather than Austria) as your primary destination in the zone. 
• 5. Discover where to apply for your visa to France
  • Apply for your France Schengen visa for citizens of Yemen in 2021 from the embassy, consulate, or visa application center of your primary destination country in the Schengen area (that is located in your country of residence).
  • For example, if you are applying for a French Schengen visa from Jordan, you will apply for your visa through the French Embassy in Amman. 
  • At the moment, it is not possible to apply for a Schengen visa to France from Yemen due to the closure of the French Embassy in Sana’a and the general absence of European consular missions in the country. If you are a Yemeni and you wish to apply for a Schengen visa to France, you will therefore need to apply from outside of Yemen, in your country of residence.   
• 6. Assemble your required materials
  • Yemenis will need to submit the following required documents and materials:
    • Schengen visa application form 
    • Yemeni passport (or other country passport) 
    • Two passport photos
    • Proof of accommodation (i.e. evidence that you have a place to stay in France)
    • Proof of finances (i.e. evidence that you can afford your trip to France) 
    • Proof of return (i.e. evidence that you will leave France/the Schengen area once your visa is up)
    • Travel medical insurance
    • Biometric information (fingerprints and photos) 
    • Schengen visa fee (80 EUR for most Yemeni applicants) 
  • As well as the above documents, Yemenis are also responsible for submitting the supplemental materials required for their specific visa type. For example, if you are applying for a Schengen Medical visa to France, you will need to submit documents from the hospital/clinic where you are having your procedure, attesting to the specific nature of the treatment you are receiving.
• 7. Access your France visa application
  • France has a special online application system that you should use when you apply for your visa. The France tourist visa application form is online here.
  • Access the above link to fill out your basic application form and access additional  France visa information, which is available in Arabic as well as English, French, and several other widely spoken languages. 
• 8. Schedule your France visa for Yemen appointment 
  • All Yemenis must schedule a visa appointment at the French Embassy, Consulate, or visa application center they are applying through in order to formally submit their application.  
  • Yemenis who applied through the France tourist visa application form online will likely be able to schedule an appointment online, through that same online system. 
• 9. Attend your France visa for Yemen appointment 
  • The in-person Schengen appointment is where you will submit your complete France visa application, pay your France tourist visa fees for citizens of Yemen (if you haven’t yet already), submit your biometric information, and attend a visa interview. 
  • The majority of Yemeni Schengen visa applicants will pay the standard 80 EUR Schengen visa fee, however, if you are a student, a minor, or fall into one of the other exempt categories, you may be able to avoid paying a fee, or face lower fees (for more information on visa fees, click here).
  • Please note that even if you have already submitted your previously submitted your biometrics and paid your France tourist visa fees for citizens of Yemen electronically, you still will have to show up in person for an interview, as per the Schengen visa requirements. 
• 10. Await your decision 
  • Obtaining a France Schengen visa for citizens of Yemen in 2023 can be difficult, and not all applicants for this particular France visa category are successful in their pursuit of the coveted travel document.
