The Ministry of Health and Care Services of Norway has modified the list of countries and areas that are bound to travel quarantine upon arrival in Norwegian territory.
From Monday 6 December 2021, travel quarantine will be mandatory for people coming from San Marino, Vatican City, and Malta.
Travel quarantine will also be introduced for the Swedish province of Östergötland, in addition to Blekinge, Gävleborg, Gotland, Halland, Kalmar, Skåne, Stockholm, Uppsala, Värmland, Västernorrland, Västmanland, Västra Götaland, and Örebro, which will continue to require travel quarantine.
From week 48 [29 November – 5 December], no areas in Sweden are green, and only orange areas (Dalarna, Jämtland, Jönköping, Kronoberg, Västerbotten, Norrbotten, Södermanland) are exempt from travel quarantine.
In Norway, travel quarantine is mandatory for red, dark red, grey, and purple areas if the travelers coming from these places do not have a valid COVID-19 certificate. “Valid” means that it can be verified by the Norwegian authorities using the European Digital COVID Certificate Gateway, created in order to prevent falsifications.
As always, only children under 18 years old are exempt from travel quarantine independently of the country they’re traveling from. The only way for adults to skip travel quarantine is by presenting a negative COVID-19 diagnostic test (PCR) taken 3 days after arrival or later. But until then, they must stay isolated.
In Europe, the countries that are reached by these rules are Andorra, Belgium, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Iceland, Croatia, Cyprus, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Monaco, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Hungary, Austria, Bulgaria, France, Portugal, Romania, and Spain. Italy, Malta, San Marino, and Vatican City have been exempt from travel restrictions because they were classified as orange areas, but this has recently changed due to the rise of COVID-19 cases there, and now they’re officially red areas.
Other places that are red or dark red are:
- Denmark (it doesn’t have green or orange regions from week 46 [15–21 November]), including the Faroe Islands and Greenland.
- The Finnish regions of Pirkanmaa, Central Tavastland, Southwest Finland, Helsinki-Uusimaa, Kymmenlaakso, Central Finland, Central Ostrobothnia, North Ostrobothnia, South Ostrobothnia, North Savo, Päijat-Häme, and South Karelia.
- The Azores (Portugal), the Balearic Islands (Spain), the Canary Islands (Spain), Madeira (Portugal), Corsica (France), Crete (Greece), the Northern Aegean Islands (Greece), the Southern Aegean Islands (Greece), and the Ionian Islands (Greece).
On the other hand, there are zones that have changed from red to orange, and therefore, they will not be subject to the travel quarantine requirement upon arrival in Norway. These areas are:
- Dalarna, Jämtland, Jönköping, Kronoberg, and Västerbotten (Sweden).
- Länsi-Pohja, Kainuu, Lapland, North Karelia, Satakunta, South Savo, Vaasa, East Savo, and the Åland Islands (Finland).
- Sardinia and Sicily (Italy).
There are no more green archipelagos from week 48, and no more green countries in the European continent from week 49.
